Terry Barret explains more in depth the following categories: ethically evaluative, aesthetically evaluative, and theoretical photographs giving various examples of photographers and their work. Ethically evaluative photographs according to Barrett "describe some attempt scientific explanations, others offer personal interpretations but most distinctively, they all make ethical judgments." (Barrett,85). This photographs are passionate and try to demonstrate or resemble the word ethics. Important works from many photographers have shape society today and how we look at it; For example Dorothea Lange and Jacobs Riis.
Aesthetically evaluative photographs is referred as the "art photography" the most well-known kind for people. The photographs in this category are defined as beautiful subjects matters; The most common are the nude, the landscape, and the still life. Example of photographers in this category are: Robert Mapplethorpe, Aron Siskinds and Jock Struges. The last category, Theoretical photographs cover many issues regarding art, from the making to the political aspect of it. Artist like Cindy Sherman and Sarah Charlesworth are considered to be part of this category. It's very exciting to see how these artists have shaped the history of photography and make a difference in the world creating new concepts and informing about important events and problems to the viewers thru their work.
